I have a Bichon Frise (Lily nearly a year old).... I take her to the dog groomers every 6-8 weeks to keep the coat short and more manageable. BUT I still have to comb her every day. I know you are supposed to comb your dogs coat in the direction of the hair growth, but with the Lily the fur is like afro hair and grows in ALL directions. I read some where that you should start at the tail and comb the Bichon Frise from the back (tail end) to the front (head) not from the front (head) to the back (tail). Is this the best way to comb them? The other problem I have is that Lily only has three legs, so she can%26#039;t stand up to be combed. I have to do it with her laying down. Does anyone who had a Bichon have any grooming tips or advice please? Thanks.
Combing my Bichon Frise....?
I work for woman who breeds and shows Portuguese Water Dogs, however she maintains two Bichon%26#039;s as pets. I would rather keep the Porties in a show cut year round than deal with the hair of the Bichons. However, it must be done. LOL
Actually, the fact that your dog lays down is a benefit. They should be laying during the brushing process. It is much easier. Bichons should be brushed AGAINST the lay of the hair for the best %26quot;fluff%26quot; They should also be brushed from the skin out rather than just the topcoat. Brushing up and out instead of down.
I usually start with the stomach, working my way up the sides, then doing the legs and finally the head. First remove all the tangles/mats with the end of a large comb and the use of a grooming spray, if needed.
With your dog%26#039;s back facing you, place your hand flat on her side with your fingers pointing toward her head. You should see a line of skin below your pinky finger. Start there and slowly brush away from you with each stroke pulling out a small section of the hair under your hand, moving your hand up her side as needed. The biggest mistake made is to try to brush from the outside in rather than starting at the skin and brushing your way out.
This is just a brief description. You may want to talk to your groomer and see if she can show you the best way to brush out your dog. There are also books and videos that you can find to show the proper grooming methods for each breed. I would recommend the videos as sometimes it%26#039;s easier to copy something you see than to read something and try to make sense of it.
Good luck and enjoy your %26quot;curly lap dog%26quot;.
Reply:Do what ever makes it easier on you and your puppy
Reply:i have 2 bichons and as cute as they are their coats need grooming a lot ten mins after doing it it still looks as bad as when u started!!! i spray de tangling spray first as start at the tail and work to the head! they hate it but it has to be done!
Reply:Only thing shampoo the hair properly and at times, have the massage of olive oil and then after shampoo . It will not create problem and hairs will be fluffy and nice without any problem.
Reply:Go to the site eurobichons and ask for help its a superb site for all toy dogs, I know its probably the best toy dog site I have ever seen.

My two cats and I will be moving to a house with two dogs. How do I introduce my two cats?
I have two cats. Miss Kitty is 7 years old and Lily is 2 years old. Miss Kitty was ferrel when I brought her home and it has taken many years to gain her trust. She is now a loving kitty, but she is definately an alpha, and she is the queen of her domain. Lily is a sweetheart, but timid. I will be moving in with my fiance soon and he has two australian shepards. Molly is 9 years old and Dexter is 7 years old. They are very well trained and behaved(for the most part, other than stealing a loaf of bread from time to time). Molly is very much the alpha and has an interest in chasing cats. Dexter just cares about his ball, so I%26#039;m not too worried about him. My cats have only known my condo and the hallway and soon they will have a big house and access to the outside world, through a doggy door. I am concerned about how this is going to play out. Has anyone dealt with this kind of situation? Any suggestions on how to handle the merging of pets?
My two cats and I will be moving to a house with two dogs. How do I introduce my two cats?
Many cats and dogs live happily together.Cats and dogs have a different psychology and body language, but some people believe that dog-to-cat introductions are often easier than cat-to-cat. Dogs are pack animals and will take their cue from your boyfriend as the Alpha figure, in how to treat your cats. So if you handle the introductions slowly and carefully, they will accept your cats as members of the family pack. Cats on the other hand are more concerned about territory than their place in the pecking order. So long as they feel in control of territory, they won%26#039;t care if the dogs consider them the lowest ranking members of the family pack. Animals rely much more heavily on their sense of smell than we do, so it%26#039;s important to confine the cats to a separate room initially, so that the dogs get to %26quot;meet%26quot; them by smell before you attempt any face to face introductions. The web articles below have lots of advice on introducing cats and dogs.
http://www.messybeast.com/first-impressi...
http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac...
Once you begin allowing them in the same room together, make sure that there are high places such as shelves or bookcases where the cats can sit in safety and view the dogs until they feel more comfortable around them. Also make sure that if they have a litter tray, that it%26#039;s somewhere safe so that they cannot be %26quot;ambushed%26quot; by the dogs whilst using it. Remember to reward all the animals for good behaviour, as this will help them be more sociable with each other.
Good luck.
Reply:I have added 3 cats to new dogs, or even new dogs to existing cats, at first the cats hissed and hated the dog, but after a while they were friends, they played together and slept together. Don%26#039;t force your cats, don%26#039;t even pick them up and bring them to the dogs, just let them all get closer as time goes on, it shouldn%26#039;t take long. they are goin to realize that the dogs aren%26#039;t goin away, and they are gonna want to watch for a while, and then they will want to get to know them, hopefully.
Reply:As for the merging of the four pets, the usual reccommended solution is to bring the cats into the house and keep them in a seperate room for a period of time, so that the animals can get used to each others%26#039; smells through the closed door (eliminating the threat of fear or aggression).
Feed them on either side of the door, so that they associate the smell of the other animal to good things, like treats or food. It might sound like you want them to eat the cats, but trust me ;)
Slowly start feeding them with the doors open, but not too close since the dogs might become aggressive over food.
Allow them to come to each other - there%26#039;s nothing worse than bringing one animal up to another; it%26#039;ll just make them feel out of control and afraid.
If they don%26#039;t get along in the end, since they%26#039;re all mature animals, so be it, but this is the best way to encourage positive behaviour towards each other.
If the dogs start chasing the cats, be very firm in your discipline - discourage it from the start however you normally discourage bad behaviour (either with command words or physical dominance *NOT ABUSE OR PUNISHMENT* just standing between them and the cats and making eye contact.) You want to make sure the dog knows you are a defendor of the cats, and he has to go through you.
Best of luck! Don%26#039;t forget to get the cats vaccinated %26amp; collared before they can go outside alone.
Reply:I agree with Montreal. I would bring the dogs to visit the cats in their turf if possible. Or the cats could visit briefly a few times with the dogs gone or on leashes at first contact so the cats are more secure. They each need separate space/territory at first. Don%26#039;t force or rush them.
Reply:I had two dogs then three cats ...it took a while but they worked it out themselves...one of the cats hated the dogs , so she just avoided them but the others eventually all slept in a big ball together took around 3 weeks...plus a lot of hissing and growling....
Reply:welli have 4 cats and 2 dogs and a parrot. i got the bird then 3 cats then a dog then another cat then another dog, i really didnt do much just brought them home and let them get to know eachother, i do have a small dog a westie and a medium do that is super sweet but the all get along super well the all sleep on the bed with me so i think just let them roam around and watch them at first to make sure the dogs dont bug them too much and let the dogs know how it is they have to be with the cats if that makes any sence. Also i wouldnt let them go outside if they have always been indoor cats, they arent gonna know how to come back or take care of themselves. trust me. not all cats are like that but i prefer to kepp all my cats indoors.

Would anyone like to adopt a fairy?
Amaryllis Isabelle Lily is four years old.
She lives in the center of the realm in an orphanage with our 1000 other fairies and creatures.
Amie has been there for 4 years.
From 10 days old she has lived there in wait of the day when some one will come along and adopt her.
Her parents were killed when she was born and ever since she has been very quiet and her heart has been full of sadness.
By Chistmas this year there will be no more beds in the orphanage and poor little Amie will be sent out into the big world to live.
But she is too young. They have to do it though.
If you would love to adopt Amie even if you live on earth then please write a comment.
Amie%26#039;s life depends on you.
And all little Amaryllis wants for Christmas is one thing:
Love
it is up to me to find her this.
please tell me how i would be able to find her a loving family before christmas
Would anyone like to adopt a fairy?
Does she have pixie dust?

Canna lilies' storage: How to?
I am a first-year (and totally satisfied) canna lily grower! So I lifted my canna lilies and the clumps are showing many onion shaped protruberances - presumably next year%26#039;s beginnings.
Question: Shall I divide up the clumps before the storage, or leave them intact and divide in the spring? And how are they best stored? In airy bags, or airtight bags?
Canna lilies%26#039; storage: How to?
When you dig your cannas, after the frost kills the tops, clean the dirt off well, you can wash them off with a hose but let them thoroughly dry off before storing. You can divide them now or wait until spring, but be sure to leave at least 3 eyes to a piece. They are easily broken in your hands.
Find a good sized cardboard or wooden box. Put in a layer of dry peat moss, sawdust or shredded newspaper. Lay in your bulbs in a single layer, add more filler, then another layer, etc. until your box is full. Store away from dampness, doors and windows; a cool basement (but not cold), a storage building, garage, or similar place where it stays about 45-50 degrees. Airtight containers are not best because sometimes moisture does accumulate inside them. They can also be stored in brown paper bags or wrapped in newspapers and stored in a box. However, if you notice when they come into the nurseries to be sold, they are usually packed in dry peat moss. It is a good idea to check them occasionally to make sure that they are not damp. If they are, lay them out to dry before repacking them.
Reply:leave them till new growth starts before splitting.store in a cool dry place
Reply:Let them breathe!!! Put them in pantyhose and tie a knot between each one, or place in a box with shreaded paper. I love cannas, too.

This coming Feb10, my niece has signed me up at a singles meeting, (the nerve of her!), should I go?
I%26#039;m a widower, I lost my wife, Lily 2 years ago, and I%26#039;m a bit apprehensive about this.
This coming Feb10, my niece has signed me up at a singles meeting, (the nerve of her!), should I go?
if i were you i would go becase your wife would of prolly wanted you to go i know its gonna be hard letting her go but as life gose on you may notice you get loney if you dont go i say go for it
Reply:Yes!

Reply:What ave you got to loose? Even if you do not find another partner, you might find some new friends, and it is probably fun to go there.
Reply:Aww, that%26#039;s actually sweet of her.
She obviously has your best interests at heart and wants to help you move on.
I think you should definitely go, just as a consideration of the whole thing.
Reply:Its worthwhile going out to meet new people and just have some fun. She has done you a favour.
Reply:That is sweet of her. You should really get out and start meeting people, even if its just for friendly conversation. I think you have a lot to gain and a little to lose. If you do not enjoy yourself then thats ok, at least you were brave enough to go...do things that scare you/challenge your comfort zone, it makes you a better person.
Reply:Make her happy if it is ethical.

Is this a good book idea?
remember its just an idea:
an 11 year old girl named Lily Green%26#039;s bestest freind just passed away from a car accident. She has moved from Kansas to New York. She attends at a new middle school. She thinks that her life is ruined. She doesnt want to make new freinds at all. She is depressed. She doesnt like New York. her mom is now very sick and her brother just got married. She meets the popular, the jocks, the emos, the nerds, the drama freaks. She cant go into one group. Then one day, she is assigned a partner, a girl named Cynthia Owens. She then finally relizes just hoe much common they have together, and she finally finds the true meaning of freindship.
Is this a good book idea?

Verizon LG EnV (VX9900) questions about service and problems with phone?
I have two questions about my phone, the LG EnV (VX9900):
1. The first question is about a problem I have with my phone. My phone seems to randomly cut off and certain times, but NOT ALWAYS OFTEN, it only happens once in a while, but it continuously does it when this happens. [Such as near my Verizon case for it [made for the phone] and when I had the video feature in zoom as far as it would go - it would record for a second or two and turn off. Is this worth going to the Verizon store for? What is happening? [I have a 1 year warranty].
2. This question is about the service of the phone - I see they have the new Orange EnV out. Do you think they would let me trade in my silver EnV for the Orange for either free or a little amount of money? Please give me details. Thank you. [Again, I have a 1 year warranty.]
Thank you,
Lily
Verizon LG EnV (VX9900) questions about service and problems with phone?
OK, to answer #1, my enV does that as well but its not very often, probably like once a week and its not worth it for me to trade it out because I have so many ringtones, games, etc on the phone. Take it to the store and get the technicians to look at it. It does not cost you anything for them to look at it and fix whatever may be wrong. If it is something they cannot fix, they can trade it out for another enV if they do indeed see that something is wrong.
#2- No, they will not. It%26#039;s against policy. You have to get the same phone as you originally had, no matter what kind of warranty you have. I know it doesnt seem to make a lot of sense, but it has something to do with inventory of phones.
Good luck!

Reply:To answer the first one, I would recommend you going to the Verizon store and have them fix it for under $25 or so. For the second, They do charge you a minimal amount to trade unless your eligible for an uprgrade. Hope I helped. And, your welcome.
