I have a kitten who is about 2-3 months old (Yin-Yang). We waited to get ride of her mother and brother after she was weaned and began to eat dry kitten food. I have another cat that is about a year and a half old (Tiger Lily). Tiger Lily is spayed, and not the mother of the kitten. Yin-Yang tries to nurse from Tiger Lilly, although of course there%26#039;s no milk. Tiger Lily lets Yin-Yang suck on her teets, which I find very odd. How normal is this? Do you think Tiger Lily just has a motherly instinct and the kitten is just doing this for comfort?
2 month old kitten nursing from non-mother?
It%26#039;s pretty much normal , and weaned kittens even happen to try to suckle from a tomcat or a dog . anything woolly reminds them of their mother and milk and all this .
It%26#039;s good for both Yin-Yang and her new mom I think , simply because Ying-Yang feels much more secure and calm when she purrs for an adult female and thinks of her as her mom . It actually makes her feel that she still somehow has her mom , which is mentally very much vital for her . Tiger Lily also likes it otherwise she would never let the kitten do all this . so surely she likes it too .
We can not say if she has that motherly attitude towards the kitten or not , but she likes it and that%26#039;s nice . cats are so much complected creatures , and there are still so many aspects of their character that we the humans have not discovered .
Best wishes!
Reply:It%26#039;s normal because I have two kittens now who try to suckle from the mother even though they are eating dry food.
Reply:If it doesn%26#039;t bother the older cat, there%26#039;s nothing wrong with the two of them offering comfort to each other like that. Cats are family oriented, this is normal.
Reply:Get this...I had two male kittens who used to try to nurse off of each other...they would get a clump of hair in their mouth and treat it like a teet. It was the funniest thing!
Reply:sounds like they are just doing it for comfort cats will do things like that not common but not odd
Reply:A lot of animals do that. I think it is their motherly instinct. Sometimes even dogs will act like a mother to a kitten. It%26#039;s strange but kind of sweet.

Canine cardiomyopathy? Does your dog suffer from this and how old is he/she?
My dog is called Lily. She is a 2 year old Bedlington terrier and two months ago she was diagnosed with dilated cardio myopathy. She developed aschites (stomach fluid retention) and looked like she%26#039;d swallowed a football. Due to her being a Bedlington terrier, prone to copper storage disease, the vet said she probably has liver disease aswell, but I won%26#039;t allow a biopsy due to her heart problem and the dangers with general anesthetic.
She%26#039;s been prescribed Enalapril and Frusemide and eats Hills Science Plan L/D. But she vomits on average once a week, her stools are loose and she turns her nose up at her food most days. Is there a better food she should be on?
She does still love her walks though, and somtimes I forget she is dying when she is happy playing.
But she looks anorexic I worry she%26#039;ll fade away. But I don%26#039;t know whether to prepare myself for that now or in a few months or years?
Please tell me the stories of your dogs and what happened or is happening to them and you..
Canine cardiomyopathy? Does your dog suffer from this and how old is he/she?
I have a rescue dog, about age 13 with cardiomyopathy due to mvd.He is on lasix, enalapril and vetmedin.I feed wellness super 5 senior which is low sodium but a better food than hills.I have also heard wysong now has prescription diets but have not researched it yet.Even rice with boiled chicken may tempt her and is blandHas your dog had an ultrasound of the heart?Yahoo has a group called canine chf which is good for info.good luck
Reply:I have never had a dog with cardio. But you should talk to your vet and find out what it is about the crappy S/D that he is recommending it for. Go to the petfood store and tell the woman what you are looking for.. Is it a low salt diet? Low fat diet or what? find out from the vet and then you can research foods from there.
Reply:I had an Old English sheepdog that had Cardiomyopathy. He was diagnosed at about 6 yrs old and lived to be 12. He also was on enalapril and one other drug which I have forgotten the name of. He did fine on the meds and was playful until the last couple of weeks. Good luck with your dog!

What do u suggest for my school notebook..?
This year I want a different style for my notebook for school. Last year was a big creative collage of Lily Allen. But for this year I want something different, also I was thinking about writing everything in old english letter style, but what more do you suggest, to make my notebook looks fashion, cool???
(one important point: I dont really enjoy stupid hearts with flowers and all that,it%26#039;s too ordinary, I want sth original)
I%26#039;ll thank you
What do u suggest for my school notebook..?
i suggest that you put something you like on it
me for example i like animals so i put a bengal tiger on mine also the letter style is awsome
Reply:Get a bunch of different newspapers and cut random headlines out. Make a collage, and throw in any cheesey advertisements that catch your eye and/or any weird classified ads (personals, especially).
Reply:heaps and heaps of butterflies, their pretty elegant, colourful, and very eye catching [and not in a bad way either]that is if your a girl.
If you do make sure their the sticker ones cause thet give off a 3-d look[if you get the right ones, that is].
oh and rainbows and clouds, everything femine.

Friend issue.?
There are three girls, lily, natalie, and sylvia, who im having big problems with. Two years ago i was very mean and lied to lily and natalie, but last year they said they were over it. Sylvia is best friends with the two of them, but not so much with me. About a month ago I was surprised to here that she talks about me, calling me things like fat and b****y, when I don%26#039;t even know, or talk to her. My two friends, natalie and lily, have never been the same since my betrayal, and have been pretty mean, like they always talk about me behind my back and stuff. Recently there was a party, and they told the story to everyone and finished it with%26quot;and to this day, we are still really mad at her%26quot;. I was so mad, and its mostly natalie whos mean to me. And also, they told me that they forgave me, and they could%26#039;ve told me the truth. So now, all three of them(lily, natalie, and sylvia) talk about me. We all do a dance class, and they always make comments on me, that are mean of course.
Friend issue.?
Ughh, I hate when things like this happen, you think people would get mature, right? Hmm, well first of all this Sylivia girl is jealous of you for what reason I do not know, but I%26#039;m sure there are alot of them. Secondly, she%26#039;s the one who probably dug up the story from natalie and lily and sparked their hurting emotions. So you can basically say, Sylivia is starting this whole thing. I would first talk to Natalie and Lily alone, tell them to stop when they try making a comment, and stop them right there and tell them how messed up this whole thing is, and how you want to be friends with them still and how you thought this was all over, and that your still sorry about the past. Then once you have talked to them two, you need to get to Sylvia and tell her , face to face, to stop spreading stuff about you and messing up your friendships, tell her %26quot;Yea, I%26#039;ve messed up but we%26#039;ve said sorry and put that stuff behind us, now you come along and are messing everything up. What did I ever do to you? blahblahblah%26quot; let her have it, but make sure to not insult her or that gives her a reason to hate. Okay, well I hope everything goes well, good luck and tell us what happens!!
Peace.
Reply:well then you need different friends.
if they do that then there not really worth being best friends with. you should like only talk to them little and talk to your other friends more, they will get the hint and probably stop all the BS and guys will be best friends again.
Reply:Those girls are not real friends. You can%26#039;t make them be nice or stop their mean comments. I%26#039;m really sorry, I think that everyone goes through something like this. Just try to stay away from them and eventually it will get better. They%26#039;re just immature. Good luck *

Why is my plant dying? (I have a picture) http://i141.photobucket.com/al...
This picture shows a peace lily which I have had for 4 years now. About one year ago it started this very slow dying. It started browning on the tips of the oldest leaves and the browning continues until covers the whole leaf. It is to the point now where it is starting on new leafs just as they start to uncurl in their newness. I think this slow death can%26#039;t last much longer and the plant has some sentimental value to me. Please offer any experties, but please don%26#039;t just tell me to take it to a nursery. If I get no responses that is what I will do take it to a plant store.
A little more history, as I said I received this plant as gift 4 years ago and it grew very well I put it into a large pot and some neighbor kids broke the pot and I found the plant in the lawn while the root ball was still moist, so I split it into two plants. Because I didn%26#039;t have another pot big enough on hand. They both did fine for a while and the other plant has already died. I don%26#039;t think it was same death.
Why is my plant dying? (I have a picture) http://i141.photobucket.com/al...
First of all, transplant it into a smaller pot, buy a good potting soil and throw that soil out. The soil it%26#039;s in has too much vermiculite or perlite (the white stuff). When you take it out of the soil, look at the roots, cut off any that are shrivled or look rotted before repotting. Keep the soil evenly moist (not wet and don%26#039;t let it completely dry out) and hopefully it will take hold again. Poor guy looks rough, good luck.
Reply:You need to repot the plant and seperate it as well, use new potting mix and do this in the afternoon when it is a bit cooler, if you get a product called miracle grow over there use this to water the repotted plants with to give them a good start. Good Luck.
Reply:How much water are you giving this plant? Often times the leaves will do this if they are watered too much. When you water it, can the water run completely through the soil and exit out the bottom of the pot?

Which name do you like best for a girl?
I am writing a book and i need some help on names for the characters. which name do you like better for a 13 year old girl?
Casey or Lily?
Which name do you like best for a girl?
What type of character is it going to be?
I like Lily for more of a girly girl.
Casey, although not manly, does kind of seem more rough around the edges.
Reply:Thalia = only if this character is sum brazilian bombshell
Valentina = if she%26#039;s loving ... sweeet lyk v-day ya kno??
Crystal = well any1 can be a crystal
Angelina = if shes smart and brunette
those are all rele pretty names i would name but it rele depends wat the character is lyk
i dont lyk casey or lily but if i ABSOLUTELY had 2 choose it would b lily
Reply:I like Lily for a like a girly girl and Casey for a kind of tomboy/outcast/different girl.
It all depends on the personality of the character.
Hope I could help! Good luck with your book!
Reply:Lily, cause that%26#039;s my moms name. Her full name is Lillian, but people call her Lily, but the Lily is spelt Lilly. Two ll%26#039;s. Lol, I hope you got that.
Reply:When I think of Lily, it reminds me of a cute little 3 year old. You could do Cassie if you think Casey is too much of a boys name.
Reply:Lily. I like that name.
Casey, could be a unisex name because I know a boy named Casey. I also know a girl names Kacie but pronounced the same.
Reply:Lily is a good name but it%26#039;s a little generic. I would go with Casey to make your character stand out more. Good luck with he book, I%26#039;m sure it will be great!
Reply:I like Cassey, but I think you should spell it Cassie... which means shining on Man kind... so if she is a main character, I think cassie is the best name.

Reply:I like the name Lily. I always spell it Lilly, even though that is not the actual spelling. =)

Reply:I like Lily.I also like the flower :D
Reply:I like the name Lily. I always spell it Lilly, even though that is not the actual spelling. =)

Sometimes I think my dog doesn't like me?
I have a 2 year old Lhasa Apso named Lily and sometimes I think she doesn%26#039;t like me.When I come home she doen%26#039;t greet me like she use to. She jumps up and licks my hand but she doen%26#039;t seem too exited.
Sometimes I think my dog doesn%26#039;t like me?
maybe shes just getting out of her puppy phase, and maturing into a quieter dog! I%26#039;m sure she likes you!
Reply:I have a rat terrier. She used to like me. Go to bed, cuddle up on the couch. Now, she under the bed, and under the couch. I call her she goes the other way. I have NEVER done a thing, I never even yell at her. She is 2 yrs. Oh, she loves my sister, what a kick in the pants that is. Report It
Reply:just because your dog doesn%26#039;t greet u like she used to doesn%26#039;t mean she doesn%26#039;t love you. all dogs age the differently. is your dog on any medication? my dog%26#039;s medicine makes her need to pee all the time and she isn%26#039;t as active when she takes it.
Reply:Have you taken her to the vet? If she is sick that could likely be the cause of her change in temperament.
Reply:Its actually a good sign that your dog no longer gets over-excited when you come home. What most people mistake for a show of excitement and happiness when they come home (dog barking, prancing, jumping, wagging nearly its whole body, etc.) is really anxiety and should not be encouraged by giving it attention and affection when it acts this way. Your dog greeting you calmly is a sign that she is content and comfortable in her situation.
Reply:Maybe it%26#039;s because she is getting older. She isn%26#039;t a puppy anymore, and probably mellowed out a bit.

Bunny question ... ? [how they died :(]?
Ok, um, I%26#039;ve had three rabits and 2 of them have died.
But we have no idea how !
The first one, Lily, got really skinny and past away one day while we were out. She was very weak and floppy, and we tried to get her to eat and kept her inside for a night but it didn%26#039;t really seem to help.
And our other one, Rosie, was making squeling noises and was on the ground and it seemed like her neck was broken. I picked her up and tried to calm her down but she died in my arms. She was kinda floppy, to. It was very traumatic.
We have no idea how it happened !
And I badly want to know :(
Anyone have any ideas ???
Also, we%26#039;ve had our other bunny Timmy for around a year, (we got him with Lily, and then just had him for a while, and then got Rosie so he could have some company, and then she died)
I that weird at all ?

Bunny question ... ? [how they died :(]?
There are a number of things that could have caused this - if it had been just the one rabbit, i%26#039;d have suggested something being wrong with her mouth - ie overgrown teeth, but since another one died shortly afterwards, my first instinct is to suggest either poisoning or malnutrition. You haven%26#039;t given any details on where you have kept the rabbits, or what you%26#039;ve been feeding them.
There could be toxic paint or wood treatment in their hutch for example, if you keep them in one. Or, you may be feeding them the wrong food, and they%26#039;ve died of malnutrition. They may have been poisoned by eating something toxic to rabbits, or even eating poison. Of course, it also may have been caused by a parasite or disease.
You need to have a good hard look at every little detail of their environment - there might be something that will indicate a problem. If not, the only other choice you have is to take the rabbits to a vet for a post-mortem. This may not be cheap though.
If there are any rabbit societies or clubs in your area, perhaps give them a call, and discuss the deaths with them. They might be able to help you after receiving more information from you.
Good luck with your remaining rabbit.
Reply:I don%26#039;t understand why the first one wasn%26#039;t taken to the vet at the first sign of a problem :(
Please get at least one good, recently published book on rabbits as pets. Read it twice, and not just the parts about playing and looking at the pics! Read it all! When you%26#039;ve finished, I think you%26#039;ll be able to answer your own question :(
Sorry.
Also, please be a responsible owner and do all of your research and buy all of your supplies before ever getting any animal. Good luck with the last bunny!
ps- if anyone is lifting them by their middles, that can kill them. Stress can kill them, too.
Reply:I think that Timmy is making the other girls mate with him but they don%26#039;t want to and he and Rosie got into a fight.
Reply:i%26#039;m not gonna talk about a vet. Maybe its just mothers nature. god knows when we all die. maybe it was just a freak thing. Maybe it died of a air bubble in her stomach,or maybe she had cancer. if rosie had a broken neck, and you picked her up,it could have been possible it was weak already, and just got worse. Thats really sad though. I had a rabbit once when I was about 10,a cute black one. but it made such a poopie mess,we finally got rid of it. they arent easy to take care of
if you have the money, and really want to know. why dont you get a autopsy performed and find out the cause, maybe that will clear your mind of knowing.
Reply:Please do not get another one till you have done your research. Please. Make sure you can afford the vet bills because you actually should have taken the pooor things to the vets.

Really bad guy problem... *sob*?
There%26#039;s this guy named John that is two years older than me. I%26#039;ve liked him for two years now, and he was my very first crush. He was also the very first guy that asked me out. I said no though two years ago, because my firend Lily liked him. Also, he asked me out before I REALLY liked him. Anyways I have a sister. I%26#039;m 13 and she is 12. John is 15 now. This year my sister, John, a group of other kids our age, and I went to this convention. There were fifty kids in total and we were split up into groups. My sister was in John%26#039;s group. She knew I liked him and she tried not to like him, but they spent so much time together. How could she not like him? He%26#039;s really nice, BUT he%26#039;s really ugly and does stupid things. Now we both like him and want him. He really likes my sister though. He likes her more than he likes me now, but I like him more than my sister does. I%26#039;ve liked him for two years. My sister has only liked him for two days. We don%26#039;t know what to do now. Will you please help us?:(
Really bad guy problem... *sob*?
You can take one of two approaches:
All%26#039;s fair in love-and-war: Continue to actively pursue
the guy.
or
Family comes first: Let your sister date him and perhaps
pick up the pieces
Truthfully, if you weren%26#039;t getting anywhere with
him to begin with, I%26#039;d take the latter.
Indeed, she may be breaking the ice for you.
However, you should have done something about
this before your sister got involved. You were
waiting for him to come to you, right? Fess up...
There is no reason, as a girl, why you shouldn%26#039;t
have asked him out.
NONE WHATSOEVER.
Reply:Move on. So nothing%26#039;s happened for the last 2 years, either make your move on him or forget about him. Soon he will be taken by someone else.
Reply:You are really intelligent for a 13 year old. I would spend more time on the books though, if I were you. You have a lifetime ahead of you to fall in and out of love.
Reply:Your sister can wait in line. I mean two days i ncomparison to two years? But then again, it all depends on the guy, and who he chooses and for how long. I%26#039;d recommend tho, that the both of you wait a little while longer to let emotions stabilize. Don%26#039;t want too much of a sibling rivalry here.
Reply:You are both too young to be worried about boys and who likes who. Why can%26#039;t both of you just be friends with John?
Reply:Ah.. young love. It%26#039;s a confusing situation that you will probably encounter many times again in your life. One rule that I have always followed with my friends is that we don%26#039;t date people that the others like also. This way there is no hurt feelings. Also try to remember that at your age relationships don%26#039;t last for very long. You are going to change your mind all the time as of who you like and don%26#039;t like.

When do I replant asiatic lilies???
Several years ago I planted about 30 asiatic lily bulbs in a 3 foot x 3 foot flower bed . This year they grew and bloomed well but seem to be over crowded . Several large flowers in center and lots of smaller around edge . My question is should I dig up and give more room to grow ?? If so when ??? I live in Central Illinois And if I relocate should I get smaller ones from edge or move larger from center .
When do I replant asiatic lilies???
I would wait until after the heat....early September. I am slightly north of you in Rock Island. The thinning doesn%26#039;t matter where...center or outside as they will do much better when %26quot;reduced%26quot;....you%26#039;ll probably find you have about 6 times as many as when you planted as many are stunted by the overgrowth. If these are day lillies they are VERY hardy so you might move them now....I would wait however as we are just headed into the hottest time of year.
Reply:take both yes dig up split them.
Reply:You can transplant lilies about any time. I have planted and transplanted some lilies as recent as 2 weeks ago and they are doing fine. Try to do it in the morning or evening when it is a little cooler and water well. If it were me, I would move some of the larger ones from the center if you are able to.

Will Stargazer Lilies bloom after they got bit by frost?
My stargazer lilies started coming up early this year, I am in zone 8, Georgia. We had a freeze and the tops of the shoots turned brown and mushy. They are still growing and the new growth looks okay. But will this affect the flowers?
Will Stargazer Lilies bloom after they got bit by frost?
This has happened to my Stargazers in MN (zone 4 ) a couple of times and has never affected the blooms at all. That%26#039;s true of all my lilies, they%26#039;re tough like the early spring blooming bulbs are. I wouldn%26#039;t worry a bit.
Reply:The flowers should be fine - because they come out much later. The buds have not emerged yet.

Can water lilies be used to purify water?
It seems to me I read something years ago about water lilies being a problem somewhere (maybe Florida?) because of their prolific reproduction and created havoc for boaters. But seems to me that there was research done and they do more good cleaning up the water than aggravation to boaters? Am I remembering wrong?
Can water lilies be used to purify water?
As I recall water lilies are very good at absorbing nitrates but other than that arent all that good at cleaning up water. Cattails on the other hand are great and are used to clean up water. I think the prolific plant you may be thinking off is water hyacinth, originally a south american plant it was introduced in many areas and is causing a few problems in florida due to its prolific nature, as it is clogging up waterways.
Reply:You are actually remembering correctly. White water lilies have been used for what%26#039;s called phytoremediation, or using plants to remove pollutants like heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium) from soil or water.
However, despite their postive use in phytoremediation, it is possible to have too much of a good thing and end up with the problem you described.

Some people i know think im crazy and im begging to belive them?
I feel like im a rose in a bunch of lilies. Im 17 year old girl and i have trouble fitting in with people my age and i find i enjoy talking to older kids and adults because they are so much more interesting to talk to. My parents thought i was weird when i began to really get into video games. I liked vlioent ones, happy ones, sad ones. Ive played Halo, Resident evil, super Mario, scarface TWIY, Grand theft auto and many other titles. Alot of girls dont even know who mario is so that makes me an out cast with them. And boys freak out when i talk to them. People also think im emo because i like well . skulls i dont know why. I have alot of clothes with skulls on them but i dont dress dark or were dark make up myself. Why am i like this? Ive been told to be proud of myself for being different but all ive been rewarded with is a digonises of depression and phyc assements. I know i may seem dark but im not, i like teddy bears and love hearts to. Im sick of it.what do i do? some advice plz!

Maybe there%26#039;s nothing wrong with you: we all do %26quot;our own%26quot; things as teenagers. We get deeply into some things as we explore our identity.
Also, games are very addictive. They help you concentrate and forget your worries. Most of us have been addicted to the computer, television, gaming, or something!
However, your behavior could also mean you have a tendency toward addictive behavior. How much time does this gaming takes from your day, and does it interfere with your social life = being with other people your age, or your job or studies????!
If it does interfere with the above things,
consider: addictive personality, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder.
You might just be exploring your identity, but talk with a qualified adult about how you feel.
The community mental health clinic is a good option. Take care of yourself!

lily is 16 years younger then danny. danny is two more then twice lily%26#039;s age.
what are there ages?
please explain how to do this :]
Math problem?
Use algebra.
Let x = lily%26#039;s age, and x + 16 = danny%26#039;s age.
Danny is two more than twice lily%26#039;s age:
x + 16 = 2x + 2
Then solve the equation you get:
x + 16 = 2x + 2
16 = x + 2
x = 14
x + 16 = 30
Lily is 14, Danny is 30.
Hope that helps!
Reply:Let
X = Lily%26#039;s age
Y = Danny%26#039;s age
Since Lily is 16 years younger than Danny, then
Y = X + 16 (Equation 1)
and since Danny is 2 more than twice Lily%26#039;s age
Y = 2X + 2 (Equation 2)
Since Equation 1 is equal to Equation 2,
X + 16 = 2X + 2
2X - X = 16 - 2
X = 14
Solving for Y (from Equation 1),
Y = X + 16 = 14 + 16 = 30
Danny is 30 years old and Lily is 14 years old.
Reply:replace lily with x and danny with y.
x+16=y y+2=2x therefore y=2x-2
that means x+16=2x-2
x+16-2=2x
x=14 y=16+14=30
lily is 14 yrs old danny is 30 yrs old
Reply:let lilly%26#039;s age be x
danny%26#039;s age be y
y-16=x
y=2x+2
solving these 2 equations
x=14(lily%26#039;s age)
y=30(danny%26#039;s age)

What do you think about it?
Lily S. 11 years Old.
Hi everyone.
Future? It scares me so much but it fascinates me in such a sick twisted way. What will we be like, who will we marry, how will are lives turn out, what will the world be like... I mean all of use in our own way want to grasp the future but we too want to keep a firm grip on the present. Before we know it, it will be 2015. Change? Yes of course, flying cars, robots? I have no clue but we all want to know. I want to know what do you think about the future? I mean this is our childhood and before we know it we%26#039;ll be married or with our own children. I mean what ever choice we make, makes an impact, an imprint on our future. What road will we take? A dark twisted one with a sinking hurisine? Or a beautfiul magestic skylight road?
Will we ever know these answers? Proabally not but they seem to be running through my mind these couple of sunless days.

this is not written by 11 year old...
but if it is... and it%26#039;s like a %26quot;school work%26quot;... then
I don%26#039;t get one thing.
If this 11 year old is smart enough to talk about future... why isn%26#039;t she saying that it%26#039;s not smart to worry about things. I mean if you%26#039;re like 11 years old, you should be exactly 11 years old.. not 21 or 30.

How Can I Stop My Cats Fighting Each Other?
I have had my cat Lily, for a few years now, and we took in a slightly feral kitten early this year, Leo, and he always fights Lily. He%26#039;s fixed, but that doesn%26#039;t seem to calm him down, it%26#039;s getting so bad he%26#039;s ripping fur out of her :(
Any ideas?
:) Thanks
How Can I Stop My Cats Fighting Each Other?
First of all, don%26#039;t ever use physical punishment on a cat, like kicking or slapping. They don%26#039;t respond to punishment the same way dogs do, and will only learn to be scared of you if you do this. Try getting a water pistol or spray bottle with a long stream, and squirt the cat with water every time you catch him doing something bad. This doesn%26#039;t ALWAYS work with fighting, but sometimes it does, and it works for most any kind of bad kitty behavior too. The cat will learn to associate getting wet with doing the bad activity, and will eventually learn to stop. This is especially effective if the cat doesn%26#039;t see you spray him, so he doesn%26#039;t know WHERE the water is coming from, only that it is there.
I%26#039;ve had pairs of cats that fight alot, and sometimes when they don%26#039;t learn to get along or don%26#039;t respond to anything you do to stop them, you just have to try to minimalize the amount of contact they have with eachother. Keep food dishes separate ~ one for each cat, and have at least one litter box for each cat too. If they are indoor/outdoor kitties, then maybe have one in while the other is out.
Good luck :)

At least they won%26#039;t scratch each other bleeding.
Reply:Best thing to do is have a spray bottle filled with cold water to hand, one that is used to moisten the leaves of houseplants.
Watch the cats carefully, and any time they start to fight, spray them with the cold water. The sound and the cold water will shock them harmlessly, and pretty soon they will learn to associate fighting with an unpleasant shock and will learn to stop fighting.
Reply:You might try professional pet training.Otherwise there may be no other way.Discipline is the only proved method in teaching pets but sometimes that may not work.Pets are a lot like children and cats are the most stubborn of all the pets.
Reply:We used to spray our cats with water and they learnt their lesson. When bringing a new cat in they will fight because they need to find out what the pecking order is. After a few months they should settle down.
If not, try getting some advice from you vets or visit a behaviour specialist. They should be able to help you in some way. However, with Leo being a feral kitten means he is used to being a lone cat so another one may always be seen as an enemy. He could be a cat that should be in a single cat home.
good luck and if the worst happens and he has to go to a new home, remember that at least he will be happy there and your cat will settle again.
Reply:It%26#039;s obvious isn%26#039;t it? Get rid of Leo.
Reply:Get a feliway diffuser. It emits calming pheromones that will help to stop the fighting and control stress.

Can you tell me whats wrong with my cat?!?
Alright, well I have a two year old cat named Lily and she has always been a very good cat. For the past few days she has been acting insane! She will run into the room and bounce off the walls like something is following her, and the run out. She is also acting like she was a baby kitten again, because when I first got her she really liked playing with toys and strings and things, but then she outgrew it..but now she%26#039;s doing it again, and swiping at air.
She is declawed/spayed.. so I don%26#039;t think it could have to do with that...
Can you tell me whats wrong with my cat?!?
How%26#039;s the weather? Sometimes when cats sense a large storm of some sort, they get a little crazy. Mine do it all the time. Another thing may be that there%26#039;s a plant outside that you%26#039;re tracking the scent of in on your shoes. My cat decided to practically tear off my foot one day for this reason. A new plant inside may also be the reason.
But for the most part, cats will be cats. Might be that she just got in a mood and decided to liven the place up a little! Just keep an eye out that she doesn%26#039;t look like she has problems with her ears or is panting too much. If that%26#039;s the case, she may be having some sort of irritation that%26#039;s causing her to act crazy in an attempt to escape it.
But in the meantime, enjoy your kitty acting crazy! They%26#039;re hilarious when they do. (Except my Banshee, who will tear around the house yowling in the middle of the night...)
She%26#039;s still young and has a lot of energy in her. Don%26#039;t be worried.

Dog Won't Stay in Living Room Anymore/Why?
I have a 2 1/2 year old dog named Lily. Until recently, she was always very playful and happily spent her days sitting on the arm of the sofa watching the world go by and barking at anything passing. Lately, though, she goes out into the yard, comes back in, and promptly goes into my room and crawls under the bed. We recently got a kitten, but they seem to get along ok. She had fleas, but I treated her for that. She is eating, but not playing with her toys or with any of us in the family. What could be wrong with her? I am worried about her.
Dog Won%26#039;t Stay in Living Room Anymore/Why?
She probably wants to explore more than just the living room and maybe found a new spot to hang out.
Reply:It could be any number of things going on. It could be an indication of an underlying medical problem that you cannot see. The fact that she is still eating does not rule out that she may still be sick. It could also be a psychological disorder, yes dogs get depressed and have anxiety to. We have many canine patients at my clinic that are on behavior modification drugs. Such as Prozac. Believe it or not, low confidence levels in a dog can make them act very strangely. My first suggestion would be to take her to your vet to make sure she is healthy. If all that goes well then I would look into some training or behavior modification classes.

Can anyone explain to me what this poem is about---A Life by Sylvia Path?
Touch it: it won%26#039;t shrink like an eyeball,
This egg-shaped bailiwick, clear as a tear.
Here%26#039;s yesterday, last year ---
Palm-spear and lily distinct as flora in the vast
Windless threadwork of a tapestry.
Flick the glass with your fingernail:
It will ping like a Chinese chime in the slightest air stir
Though nobody in there looks up or bothers to answer.
The inhabitants are light as cork,
Every one of them permanently busy.
At their feet, the sea waves bow in single file.
Never trespassing in bad temper:
Stalling in midair,
Short-reined, pawing like paradeground horses.
Overhead, the clouds sit tasseled and fancy
As Victorian cushions. This family
Of valentine faces might please a collector:
They ring true, like good china.
Elsewhere the landscape is more frank.
The light falls without letup, blindingly.
A woman is dragging her shadow in a circle
About a bald hospital saucer.
It resembles the moon, or a sheet of blank paper
And appears to have suffered a sort of private blitzkrieg.
She lives quietly
With no attachments, like a foetus in a bottle,
The obsolete house, the sea, flattened to a picture
She has one too many dimensions to enter.
Grief and anger, exorcised,
Leave her alone now.
The future is a grey seagull
Tattling in its cat-voice of departure.
Age and terror, like nurses, attend her,
And a drowned man, complaining of the great cold,
Crawls up out of the sea.

I hesitate to answer but I think it sounds like she is looking at a painting or a picture %26quot;here is today last year%26quot; and the different sharp images dont move they are still and %26quot;light as cork%26quot; I also suppose it could be a memmory relived too I dont know for sure but I enjoyed very much reading it

Allergic to my Rat?
Has anyone heard of being allergic to rats?
I have a roughly one year old girl named Lily and before her I had 2 boys that were rescues named Boyd and Carter. I never had any problems with Boyd or Carter, but when I hold Lily I usually break out in a mild itchy rash on my arms. I hot bath or benadryl usually gets rid of it, but Ive never had this problem before.
It seems to be only when I let her crawl on me, not when I just pet her. I never had problems with Boyd or Carter, but they were rather shy and I rarely held them for long.
At first I thought maybe she had fleas or mites (Im allergic to fleas and get a similar rash from them) but she has absolutely no sign of either. No dirt, no itching, so I figure it is me.
Is this common, or do I need to maybe consider something else? And anyone know what I could be allergic to? Maybe her fur or dander or urine or what?
Allergic to my Rat?
It%26#039;s pretty common to be allergic to rats. I have had rats in the past (only one at a time) and never had any problems. However, once I got a rat and she had babies, so I ended up with 8 rats. I was pretty allergic to them, especially when they crawled on me. My doctor wrote me a prescription for Zyrtec, which worked pretty well. You might want to consider getting a prescription allergy medication.
My mom told me that scientists that study rats almost always %26quot;end up%26quot; being allergic to them. They don%26#039;t always start out allergic to rats, but apparently if you%26#039;re around them long enough, you are likely to develop an allergy.
I don%26#039;t know if it%26#039;s their dander or their urine or anything else, but it seems like Lily%26#039;s scratches are making your allergies worse. You should wear a long sleeved shirt when you%26#039;re playing with her, so that she doesn%26#039;t scratch you as much. That might help. Also, wash your hands when you%26#039;re done playing with her. That way you won%26#039;t rub your eyes or something and get rat allergens in your eyes. (I once got an infection by doing that. Whoops!)
Good luck!
Reply:No, it happens to me. Their lil nails penatrate in your arms are so small you can%26#039;t even feel them but it irritates your skin. Normal.

Do I cut my water-lilies down for winter and if so, when?
I have a water garden/pond and this is the first year I have had lilies and I am not sure how to get them ready for winter. Any help will be grateful.
Do I cut my water-lilies down for winter and if so, when?
Lillies do not have to be cut back but it is always a good idea to remove the dead leaves from your pond. Any dead material in your pond should be removed in the fall and spring. How deep are they? Lillies should be overwintered in the deepest part of the pond – where the water does not freeze. Even though they die out they should not be allowed to freeze solid. The frost line varies depending on your location – in NW Indiana it is around 20 inches. My pond lilies are deeper than 20” plus I put a trough heater (bought at TSC) in the pond over winter to keep a hole open. Pond lilies are fertilizer pigs but do not fertilize in the fall because it will stimulate growth you do not want. Fertilize in the spring. Other than that these plants are hardy and if they are in pots they will require you to divide them in a year or two but that is another subject.
Reply:I don%26#039;t have many, but I%26#039;m bring them inside till April.

Whatever happened to the actors in the film Annie from the 1980's?
The people like
Annie=Aileen Quinn who made a film called The Frog Prince a few years after Annie
Lily, Rooster%26#039;s girlfriend= Bernadette Peters who, I know was in the film The Jerk
Any more info?
Whatever happened to the actors in the film Annie from the 1980%26#039;s?
Carol Burnett who played Orphan Mother Miss Hannigan already had a successful tv career from her variety tv show %26quot;The Carol Burnett Show%26quot;
Tim Curry who played %26quot;Rooster%26quot; already had a cult following from his role in the %26quot;Rocky Horror Picture Show%26quot; has had steady work from 80%26#039;s movie %26quot;Clue%26quot; and Stephen King%26#039;s 80%26#039;s tv show %26quot;It%26quot; performing as Pennywise the clown and his recent venture was in %26quot;Scary Movie 2%26quot;.
Albert Finney who played %26quot;Daddy Warbucks%26quot; probably has been the most busy out of the All Star cast. He%26#039;s been in great roles as recent as this year in %26quot;The Bourne Ultimantum%26quot;, Tim Burton%26#039;s %26quot;Corpe%26#039;s Bride%26quot;, %26quot;Ocean 12%26quot;, %26quot;Big Fish%26quot; and recieved a Oscar Nomination for his role in the movie %26quot;Erin Brochovich%26quot;.
Aileen Quinn was chosen to be Annie in the film version from 8,000 girls. The announcement was made in January 1981 by director %26#039;John Huston%26#039; (cv), who introduced Aileen as his Annie to the world on nationwide TV. _Annie 1982_ (cv) was filmed from April to September 1981. Aileen starred in one more movie after Annie, - _The Frog Prince_ (cv) - when she was about 14, but it was never released in theaters, only on video. Meanwhile, she continued to do theater. A family member was running the theater at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on the Army base there, so Aileen was invited to star in several productions there. In 1985 she was Dorothy in %26#039;The Wizard Of Oz%26#039;, and in 1986 she was Annie once again, except this time it was the stage musical. Opposite her as Daddy Warbucks was Harve Presnell, who had played the role for years on Broadway and in one of the National Tours. When Aileen was a senior in high school, she starred in %26#039;A Day In Hollywood, A Night In The Ukraine%26#039; in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
Ann ReinKing who played %26quot;Grace%26quot; starred in Micki + Maude in 1984. The film was led by Reinking, Amy Irving, and Dudley Moore. The film centers on Moore, portraying Rob Salinger, a man who impregnates two women and does the only honorable thing—marries them both. This romantic comedy is often hailed as Reinking’s best role, and marked her last appearance in a motion picture.
Reinking fell out of celebrity status until her mid-90s return to Broadway with Chicago. For her choreography of the classic musical, Reinking won the 1997 Tony Award for Best Choreographer. Throughout Reinking’s dancing and singing career, she earned three more nominations. Her first was in 1975 for Goodtime Charlie in the category of Best Actress. She went on to a nomination in the same category in 1978’s Dancin%26#039;, and was nominated one last time in 1999 for Best Director in Fosse.

What to do with kitty at night?
Lily is almost a year old. We have to close our bedroom door at night or else she gets rambunctious in the middle of the night and we can%26#039;t sleep - so we shut the door so she can play in the rest of the house without bothering anyone. Problem: In the morning (around 5) she claws at the carpet outside the door, and the door itself. This fun little activity has just started within the last week (and I%26#039;m not really sure why - we%26#039;ve had her since the beginning of October with no problems). We live in an apartment complex where the cats are supposed to be declawed, but I don%26#039;t want to do that ever - so we%26#039;re trying to %26quot;hide%26quot; her, but it%26#039;ll be difficult if she pulls up all the carpet! I don%26#039;t really know how to make her stop this crazy new habit (not to mention it%26#039;s loud and wakes us up). It%26#039;s not because she%26#039;s hungry either, she just wants attention (more details to follow).

sprinkle a healthy splash of cayenne pepeer on the carpet. she won%26#039;t scratch there twice. it don%26#039;t harm them just sting a bit and then they recognize the smell and won%26#039;t scratch anywhere you put it. works on most items and great on furniture. just vacuum it up in a couple days after kitty is trained.
Reply:Speaking as a cat, we like to scratch. It%26#039;s one of the things we do. If you don%26#039;t want us scratching at the carpet, give Lily something you approve her scratching at, then give her an incentive to scratch it, rather than the carpet. Those scratching boards my feeder brings me are nice, especially when they smell like catnip - I love those boards! He%26#039;s also got this great wooden ladder that he won%26#039;t be able to use if I keep scratching it up, but he loves me, so he doesn%26#039;t stop me from scratching it, since I%26#039;ve really adopted that as my scratching post. So, give Lily one of those options - she%26#039;ll appreciate it.
Reply:If you%26#039;ll play quietly with her for awhile before you go to bed, and then let her sleep in a bed (or on your bed) in your room, she%26#039;ll get used to the routine, and calm down in a few nights. If you had a baby (human), and were having this nighttime sleeping problem, you wouldn%26#039;t put it outside a locked door at night, would you? Cats are children in a fur coat! Since Lily is almost a year old, her hormones are starting to %26quot;kick in%26quot;, too, and she wants more attention. Believe it or not, you will get used to her sleeping with/on you. Most people do.....if they love their cats! Hope this helps......good luck.
Reply:it may sound mean, but we did this with our cats because they would be too loud at night and scratch under the door and destroy the carpet if we were to close the door
we got a large dog crate, a small litter box and we would put them in there at night with some water and give them their night time feeding in there also we put some toys and a cushy blanket. after a month of doing this we tried letting them out at night and they were pretty good and would only have to put them in there on a few occations, it has been a long time, probably a year since we have had to put them in there

believe me, i have the same problems and i totally agree with you, it%26#039;s annoying!
The thing that I do to prevent her from going anywhere where i don%26#039;t want her to is spray a spray that cats don%26#039;t like called:
Fooey
It%26#039;s extremely bitter tasting.
It reduces chewing, iting and licking behaviors.
It%26#039;s for dogs, cats, horses, ferrels, caged birds, rabbit and rodents.
but, you can%26#039;t apply this diretly to dogs and cats.
this is so cool! i think that it workds well, here are some things that it does!
For Household objects like furniture, walls, wires, shoes and lothing, it reduces chewing and biting by dogs, CATS, horses and rabbits. All you have to do is test for colorfastness or staining. Spray it affected areas until moist and then you repeat as needed.
For wounds or bandages it deters licking, biting and chewing by horses, rabbits, and ferrets. do NOT apply ON dogs or CATS. BUT, make sure not to apply directly to the wound. and don%26#039;t get in eyes! ouch!
For affected areas on cages birds, it reduces feather picking and biting by caged birds.
For wooden objects for example fencing, gates, stables, stalls etc. It reduces chewing by horses! You just have to apply spray until area is thorougly wet.
For poisonous and omamental plants, it reduces chewing and nibbling by dogs, cats, and horses and i think oh yeah, rabbits. Test for leaf damage prior to application. Then, you should spray on foliage until lightly needed.
You know, isn%26#039;t that cool?
whoever invented that, cheers!
Reply:My cats do the same thing, the only thing they do is that they will cry like crazy and will not stop and get louder and louder until we have to let them inm because they will wake the neighborhood. Also good for you for not getting them declawed. It is really bad if they are, because that is there only line of defense.
Reply:I had the same problem- get a spray bottle or water gun..open the door just a crack and spray the cat. My cat learned to never do that again in just 3 nights of being sprayed.

I tried shutting my door BUT Buu nemos brother opens it by jumping at the handle. once in Nemo starts the nose tapping.
leave your door open she will get fed up of waking you up or trying too.
My problem is my work shifts are from 6 in the morning to 10 at night. nemo doesn%26#039;t think I have days off.
Reply:At night we put our 4 month old kitten in the laundry room with her litter box, food, water and toys. Reply:You could give her more attention during the day or just get a little cat bed to put her in while she%26#039;s sleeping. You could also try letting her sleep with you and leave the door open so she could come in and out. My cat does this too, and yes, she does want attention. I just let my cat into the bed and eventually, after she knows I am not playing, she%26#039;ll either leave or just lie down. You could also try a cat toy or something that doesn%26#039;t make noise.

Would this layout work in my garden?
Think of it as a long rectangle shape. I have pansys (or whatever anual is in season) in front for 3 close lines. Behind those I%26#039;m going to put columbines in the same clustered lines. Behind those I%26#039;m planning on putting lily%26#039;s, same clustered lines. And behind everything I%26#039;m going to put taller hosta%26#039;s with a jasmine plant in the middle between the two windows. We don%26#039;t have gutters on the house, so when it rains, it%26#039;s like a water fall falling on the area the hostas will be in. I had lilies there last year and everytime it rained, the water would knock off the flowers. If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know. I%26#039;m in zone 8 and the area they will be in is partial sun/shade. Thanks for any input.
Would this layout work in my garden?
All the plants you%26#039;ve selected will do well in a partial shade area and if you like the look of a formal garden bed then it should be quite nice.
Good Luck
Reply:Columbine is my favorite plant (also called aqualegia)
Their are many varieties with different bloom times(all spring but starting early-mid-late
If the rain knocked the blooms off your lillies it will DEFINITELY tear up the leaves on your hostas
Would you consider ferns?
I would buy ostrich ferns and some that will die off this winter
and use them until the perennial ferns start to spread.Probably this year and next.
One reason I like ferns is they will put up new shoots thru out the season where as hostas what you get in the spring is basically it. Therefore if the leaves on a fern break you snip iffy off,no big visual loss
But I do love host as,be aware that host as with different color leaves require a decent amount of sunlight to keep those colors
hope this helps
One other thing, if you can find that rainline put some pea gravel around the base of whatever you plant to protect the roots, you can get very creative and draw out a little design if you like
Reply:Sounds like a good plan.
Reply:Sounds pretty, but if you want a Hosta under the rain line, try to find one with a very large leaf as in my experience, the bigger the leaf, the thicker and tougher it will be and more able to stand the beating the rain runoff may give it.
Reply:yes it will work wonderfully

Would I be able to get another rat?
Ive had my rat Lily for a year now, and I got her when she was quite young.
I want to get another rat as a playmate for her, and the cage is more than big enough, but would it be possible for 2 unrelated rats to live in one cage with such an age difference?
Also, Lily is quite petite. She is full grown but she is still smaller or the same size as many of the %26quot;medium%26quot; rats I see in the pet store. And those rats are still young.
Can I safely house another rat with her? Ive read up on how to introduce them, and am willing to do it, but I was looking a bit more for personal experience and advice.
Lily is quite happy on her own, gets lots of love and play time and is socialized with my dogs, I just thought it would be better for her to have a ratty cage-mate.
Would I be able to get another rat?
Getting another rat is a good idea. Rats need companionship; it keeps them happier and healthier.
I have done it before and it worked out fine. I may also suggest that (if your cage is big enough) you get two smaller rats because that way if Lily passes (although that probly wont happen too soon) they will have eachother for company.
heres how to introduce:
first u get a seperate smaller cage 4 the lil new rat(s) and keep the cage away from the Lily%26#039;s cage (like at a friend%26#039;s house or a different room). keep it there for a few weeks or so.
then u should place the two cages near each each other so that they can get used to eachother%26#039;s scent. dont put them so close that they can touch eachother but make it so that they can see and smell eachother. leave it like that for about a week.
introduce the rats in a neutral place like a bathtub or some place where your Lily doesnt go (and leave her scent). If they show any signs of aggression (arching their backs and attacking eachother) then unfortunetly u cant really put them together for safety purposes.
once the rats have been introduced, let them play in eachothers cages. ALWAYS watch them because u dont want any fights. once u think its ok then u can move them in together:)
*note: there is a difference between play-fighting and actual fighting. play-fighting is when the rats are nuzzling eachothers faces and jumping around and chasing eachother. this is normal in small rats. actual fighting involves biting, scratching and hissing

Reply:There is no amount of human playtime that can equal the companionship of another rat for her. A younger rat would be best, rats are very accepting of juviniles. Just make sure the cage spacing is small enough that a youngster can%26#039;t escape.
Reply:no it%26#039;s not I%26#039;ve tied it and it didn%26#039;t work out very well you should probably keep the older guy by him self.
Reply:I%26#039;ve introduced younger rats to older rats several times, and every time was a success. Usually when a rat dies and I%26#039;m left with a single rat, I introduce a pair of babies. I%26#039;ve only had females, and never had a problem.
There%26#039;s a lot of sniffing, some flipping, and a bit of running away, and at the end of the day they%26#039;re all sleeping together in the hammock.
Edit: Either would be fine. The younger the better, but I recently introduced a pair of poorly-socialized 4-month old rats to a 2-year old, and they got along fine.
Females don%26#039;t fight as much as males. They%26#039;re not as territorial and agressive.

Look into adopting one that seems to be about her same age, or possibly 2 younger rats (if your cage allows). 2 younger rats will have each other to rely on during the introduction process, and when your older rat passes on, they%26#039;ll have each other.
Ah, and I just read the part about you knowing how to do introductions. Go me for reading. I%26#039;ve introduced elderly rats into a colony of young rats, and a baby into a cage with rats from 1 year to 2 years of age.
As for the %26#039;medium%26#039; rats, my Snowball is still about the size of those rats. My dumbo rat on the other hand is younger than snowball and now outweighs her and out sizes her. Rats don%26#039;t have to be related to co-habitate, just use a careful introduction process (and quarantine process as well). My girls fight, they slam each other around the cage like its a UFC match, but theres never any blood. The worst injury I%26#039;ve seen between them is a toenail scratch to an eye, which was accidental. Blood between fighting rats is generally a bad thing, but they will squeak and carry on when they have their %26#039;you%26#039;re breathing my air%26#039; fights.
Good luck, soon you%26#039;ll be wanting more than 2. =)

Combing my Bichon Frise....?
I have a Bichon Frise (Lily nearly a year old).... I take her to the dog groomers every 6-8 weeks to keep the coat short and more manageable. BUT I still have to comb her every day. I know you are supposed to comb your dogs coat in the direction of the hair growth, but with the Lily the fur is like afro hair and grows in ALL directions. I read some where that you should start at the tail and comb the Bichon Frise from the back (tail end) to the front (head) not from the front (head) to the back (tail). Is this the best way to comb them? The other problem I have is that Lily only has three legs, so she can%26#039;t stand up to be combed. I have to do it with her laying down. Does anyone who had a Bichon have any grooming tips or advice please? Thanks.
Combing my Bichon Frise....?
I work for woman who breeds and shows Portuguese Water Dogs, however she maintains two Bichon%26#039;s as pets. I would rather keep the Porties in a show cut year round than deal with the hair of the Bichons. However, it must be done. LOL
Actually, the fact that your dog lays down is a benefit. They should be laying during the brushing process. It is much easier. Bichons should be brushed AGAINST the lay of the hair for the best %26quot;fluff%26quot; They should also be brushed from the skin out rather than just the topcoat. Brushing up and out instead of down.
I usually start with the stomach, working my way up the sides, then doing the legs and finally the head. First remove all the tangles/mats with the end of a large comb and the use of a grooming spray, if needed.
With your dog%26#039;s back facing you, place your hand flat on her side with your fingers pointing toward her head. You should see a line of skin below your pinky finger. Start there and slowly brush away from you with each stroke pulling out a small section of the hair under your hand, moving your hand up her side as needed. The biggest mistake made is to try to brush from the outside in rather than starting at the skin and brushing your way out.
This is just a brief description. You may want to talk to your groomer and see if she can show you the best way to brush out your dog. There are also books and videos that you can find to show the proper grooming methods for each breed. I would recommend the videos as sometimes it%26#039;s easier to copy something you see than to read something and try to make sense of it.
Good luck and enjoy your %26quot;curly lap dog%26quot;.

Reply:i have 2 bichons and as cute as they are their coats need grooming a lot ten mins after doing it it still looks as bad as when u started!!! i spray de tangling spray first as start at the tail and work to the head! they hate it but it has to be done!
Reply:Only thing shampoo the hair properly and at times, have the massage of olive oil and then after shampoo . It will not create problem and hairs will be fluffy and nice without any problem.
Reply:Go to the site eurobichons and ask for help its a superb site for all toy dogs, I know its probably the best toy dog site I have ever seen.

My two cats and I will be moving to a house with two dogs. How do I introduce my two cats?
I have two cats. Miss Kitty is 7 years old and Lily is 2 years old. Miss Kitty was ferrel when I brought her home and it has taken many years to gain her trust. She is now a loving kitty, but she is definately an alpha, and she is the queen of her domain. Lily is a sweetheart, but timid. I will be moving in with my fiance soon and he has two australian shepards. Molly is 9 years old and Dexter is 7 years old. They are very well trained and behaved(for the most part, other than stealing a loaf of bread from time to time). Molly is very much the alpha and has an interest in chasing cats. Dexter just cares about his ball, so I%26#039;m not too worried about him. My cats have only known my condo and the hallway and soon they will have a big house and access to the outside world, through a doggy door. I am concerned about how this is going to play out. Has anyone dealt with this kind of situation? Any suggestions on how to handle the merging of pets?
My two cats and I will be moving to a house with two dogs. How do I introduce my two cats?
Many cats and dogs live happily together.Cats and dogs have a different psychology and body language, but some people believe that dog-to-cat introductions are often easier than cat-to-cat. Dogs are pack animals and will take their cue from your boyfriend as the Alpha figure, in how to treat your cats. So if you handle the introductions slowly and carefully, they will accept your cats as members of the family pack. Cats on the other hand are more concerned about territory than their place in the pecking order. So long as they feel in control of territory, they won%26#039;t care if the dogs consider them the lowest ranking members of the family pack. Animals rely much more heavily on their sense of smell than we do, so it%26#039;s important to confine the cats to a separate room initially, so that the dogs get to %26quot;meet%26quot; them by smell before you attempt any face to face introductions. The web articles below have lots of advice on introducing cats and dogs.

Once you begin allowing them in the same room together, make sure that there are high places such as shelves or bookcases where the cats can sit in safety and view the dogs until they feel more comfortable around them. Also make sure that if they have a litter tray, that it%26#039;s somewhere safe so that they cannot be %26quot;ambushed%26quot; by the dogs whilst using it. Remember to reward all the animals for good behaviour, as this will help them be more sociable with each other.
Good luck.
Reply:I have added 3 cats to new dogs, or even new dogs to existing cats, at first the cats hissed and hated the dog, but after a while they were friends, they played together and slept together. Don%26#039;t force your cats, don%26#039;t even pick them up and bring them to the dogs, just let them all get closer as time goes on, it shouldn%26#039;t take long. they are goin to realize that the dogs aren%26#039;t goin away, and they are gonna want to watch for a while, and then they will want to get to know them, hopefully.
Reply:As for the merging of the four pets, the usual reccommended solution is to bring the cats into the house and keep them in a seperate room for a period of time, so that the animals can get used to each others%26#039; smells through the closed door (eliminating the threat of fear or aggression).
Feed them on either side of the door, so that they associate the smell of the other animal to good things, like treats or food. It might sound like you want them to eat the cats, but trust me ;)
Slowly start feeding them with the doors open, but not too close since the dogs might become aggressive over food.
Allow them to come to each other - there%26#039;s nothing worse than bringing one animal up to another; it%26#039;ll just make them feel out of control and afraid.
If they don%26#039;t get along in the end, since they%26#039;re all mature animals, so be it, but this is the best way to encourage positive behaviour towards each other.
If the dogs start chasing the cats, be very firm in your discipline - discourage it from the start however you normally discourage bad behaviour (either with command words or physical dominance *NOT ABUSE OR PUNISHMENT* just standing between them and the cats and making eye contact.) You want to make sure the dog knows you are a defendor of the cats, and he has to go through you.
Best of luck! Don%26#039;t forget to get the cats vaccinated %26amp; collared before they can go outside alone.
Reply:I agree with Montreal. I would bring the dogs to visit the cats in their turf if possible. Or the cats could visit briefly a few times with the dogs gone or on leashes at first contact so the cats are more secure. They each need separate space/territory at first. Don%26#039;t force or rush them.
Reply:I had two dogs then three cats ...it took a while but they worked it out themselves...one of the cats hated the dogs , so she just avoided them but the others eventually all slept in a big ball together took around 3 weeks...plus a lot of hissing and growling....
Reply:welli have 4 cats and 2 dogs and a parrot. i got the bird then 3 cats then a dog then another cat then another dog, i really didnt do much just brought them home and let them get to know eachother, i do have a small dog a westie and a medium do that is super sweet but the all get along super well the all sleep on the bed with me so i think just let them roam around and watch them at first to make sure the dogs dont bug them too much and let the dogs know how it is they have to be with the cats if that makes any sence. Also i wouldnt let them go outside if they have always been indoor cats, they arent gonna know how to come back or take care of themselves. trust me. not all cats are like that but i prefer to kepp all my cats indoors.
