I asked this earlier, but didn%26#039;t really get many answers so here it is again. I planted lily plants last year that were already making flowers. They all came back this year and the greenery looks great and they are much bigger. I live in central Illinois and the lilies haven%26#039;t made any flowers yet. Why? Is it too early here? Could they still make flowers? I thought they came in spring. If I have done something wrong, how can I fix it? Also, my son stepped on 2 of them and broke them off down to the ground. Will they do anything this year and will they come back next year or are they done?
Help with my lilies?
I%26#039;m in Ohio and they haven%26#039;t flowered here either. They should flower for me before yours flower. As for the ones your son stepped on, you might have a couple fewer flowers this year, but they should come back next year.
Reply:You don%26#039;t mention what kind of lilies they are. There are many varieties with different blooming times. If you had an Easter lily or star-gazer lily , those will not bloom naturally until late June /July. Some of the Asiatic bloom in early June.
On asiatic or oriental lilies, once you break of the main stem it will not produce any side shoots or flowers. They may still come back next year.
Reply:lilies do flower in spring. late spring. they haven%26#039;t flowered here in the northeast either. we%26#039;re zone 7 you probably are too. probably another few weeks and we%26#039;ll see blooms. as for the two that were stepped on... probably not much will happen this year, but next year they may give it another try. good luck
Reply:they r hardy so the ones that got stepped on will come back also different colors bloom at different times im in ohio and mine r just leaves now also i think because not much sun and it has been cool they usually bloom late spring early summer anyway...pink ones bloom in june here and red ones july so maybe your local nursery could tell u more just ask most of them r glad to help......
Reply:All lillies require a TON of sun to bloom. They will look great but without sun...........
I think you have daylillies and its too early.
Ton of sun - at least 7 hours.
A soccer match could not kill day lillies.
Reply:I%26#039;m in Iowa.. and have day lilies and tiger lilies that aren%26#039;t even budding yet .. so i wouldn%26#039;t worry just yet .. they are probably not ready yet ..
