Dog Won't Stay in Living Room Anymore/Why?

I have a 2 1/2 year old dog named Lily. Until recently, she was always very playful and happily spent her days sitting on the arm of the sofa watching the world go by and barking at anything passing. Lately, though, she goes out into the yard, comes back in, and promptly goes into my room and crawls under the bed. We recently got a kitten, but they seem to get along ok. She had fleas, but I treated her for that. She is eating, but not playing with her toys or with any of us in the family. What could be wrong with her? I am worried about her.

She probably wants to explore more than just the living room and maybe found a new spot to hang out.
Reply:It could be any number of things going on. It could be an indication of an underlying medical problem that you cannot see. The fact that she is still eating does not rule out that she may still be sick. It could also be a psychological disorder, yes dogs get depressed and have anxiety to. We have many canine patients at my clinic that are on behavior modification drugs. Such as Prozac. Believe it or not, low confidence levels in a dog can make them act very strangely. My first suggestion would be to take her to your vet to make sure she is healthy. If all that goes well then I would look into some training or behavior modification classes.
