This picture shows a peace lily which I have had for 4 years now. About one year ago it started this very slow dying. It started browning on the tips of the oldest leaves and the browning continues until covers the whole leaf. It is to the point now where it is starting on new leafs just as they start to uncurl in their newness. I think this slow death can%26#039;t last much longer and the plant has some sentimental value to me. Please offer any experties, but please don%26#039;t just tell me to take it to a nursery. If I get no responses that is what I will do take it to a plant store.
A little more history, as I said I received this plant as gift 4 years ago and it grew very well I put it into a large pot and some neighbor kids broke the pot and I found the plant in the lawn while the root ball was still moist, so I split it into two plants. Because I didn%26#039;t have another pot big enough on hand. They both did fine for a while and the other plant has already died. I don%26#039;t think it was same death.
Why is my plant dying? (I have a picture) http://i141.photobucket.com/al...
First of all, transplant it into a smaller pot, buy a good potting soil and throw that soil out. The soil it%26#039;s in has too much vermiculite or perlite (the white stuff). When you take it out of the soil, look at the roots, cut off any that are shrivled or look rotted before repotting. Keep the soil evenly moist (not wet and don%26#039;t let it completely dry out) and hopefully it will take hold again. Poor guy looks rough, good luck.
Reply:You need to repot the plant and seperate it as well, use new potting mix and do this in the afternoon when it is a bit cooler, if you get a product called miracle grow over there use this to water the repotted plants with to give them a good start. Good Luck.
Reply:How much water are you giving this plant? Often times the leaves will do this if they are watered too much. When you water it, can the water run completely through the soil and exit out the bottom of the pot?
